This is the eleventh album created by recording piano improvisations.

The album originally had a placeholder name of 'Forward', because that was the main thing on my mind - moving forward, momentum. None of this really fit properly in the end, because momentum and propulsion are really only great as motifs, fulfilling one extreme of a dynamic range.

Unless the whole album was to progress from stillness to an unstoppable juggernaut, then there had to be nuance, exploration, and variation.

Waymakers is a collection of solitary pathways - sometimes fulfilling, sometimes challenging. The first and last tracks give a nod to Studio Ghibli (my favourite film being Howl's Moving Castle), and the Land Before Time - I have been fond of both of these films since I was a child, and both feature narratives about journeys.
